WHO WE ARE

SarcomaFest was the brainchild of two friends, Colin Tyler and Julian Pepper, who have both had to deal with with a cancer diagnosis; Colin was diagnosed with sarcoma in November 2015 and Julian had a melanoma removed in 2011. After Colin's diagnosis, he and Julian went to see Slayer and whilst talking the usual BS they thought it would be a good idea to put on a gig to raise awareness of sarcoma and hopefully some funds for Sarcoma UK.

The first SarcomaFest was such a success with so many bands wanting to play that they decided to do another about 6 months later. And they even managed to get DJ Jim Beerman from Top Rock Radio on board to compere for them, and got Steve Potz-Rayner involved as the third team member, looking after graphics, videos, websites and such. SarcomaFest is now an annual event.

Leo's Red Lion is simply the best live music venue in the South East, - combined with the fact that everyone just wants to say a huge #fuckcancer makes SarcomaFest a regular and successful event to bring the Metal Community together to do exactly what they set out to do - their bit to help research into this horrible disease, while having a good time about it. Thank you for your support and see you at a gig soon.

Videos of previous sets at Sarcoma Fest can be found on Colin's YouTube channel. Just search for it when you're there, and don't forget to subscribe too! https://youtube.com/colintylermetal

(And here we are.)

That's Colin above, and Jules and Steve below.

In his own words:

"Hi. Jules here. I’ve known Steve and Colin for the best part of 36 years. Steve and I were the token “metalheads” at school and Colin went to school with my brother Adrian. We used to go to gigs together all the time in the 80’s and 90’s and rock music has played a huge part in all our lives.

I survived a cancer scare myself about 7 years ago (I had a malignant melanoma removed from my back) and so when Colin told me about having Sarcoma at a Slayer gig I knew that we had to do something to raise awareness of this type of cancer and some funds for Sarcoma UK.

And this is how Sarcomafest was born kicking and screaming in to the world (well Gravesend!).

I am immensely proud and honoured to be involved with Sarcomafest. Every SF that we’ve put on to date has been very well attended and all the bands that have played have been totally professional and played superb sets. The best thing about SF for me though is the total respect and camaraderie that is exhibited by everybody, from the great guys at The Red Lion (Terry and Vic in particular), to the audience, bands and everybody who assist the three of us in making SF so successful. We’ve raised a substantial sum already for Sarcoma UK and I’m sure we’ll raise plenty more in the future. Let’s keep rocking guys x

while Colin says:

"I'll think of something later"

and Steve chips in:

"I'm the short fat baldy one that does the computery bits, all the design work and that. I shall also be horrifying you between bands with some eclectic music selections, going on the basis that you need something Not Metal between metal bands to refresh your ears - what's termed my Shit Disco. So yeah that's my fault too. Sorry."
